Galleries and studios along Postoffice Street open late with new shows, live music, and street energy. Free, recurring roughly every few weeks — check the current schedule for the next date.
🎉 Festival Sep 19–20, 2026 Every September · R.A. Apffel East Beach Park
One of the largest amateur sandcastle competitions in the world — architects and firms build wild sculptures in the sand, with food trucks, live music, and a kid zone.
🎉 Festival Sep 26, 2026 Every fall (late Sept/Oct) · Saengerfest Park & The Strand
A downtown celebration of the Gulf shrimp harvest: a gumbo cook-off, shrimp-eating contests, a 5K, live music, and a costumed pet parade. Confirm the exact weekend before you plan around it.
🎸 Music Nov 5–8, 2026 Every November · The Strand & Seawall
The largest motorcycle rally in Texas — 150,000+ bikes and hundreds of thousands of people take over downtown and the Seawall for four days of music and machines. Book lodging months ahead; the island fills.

A mile-long walking trail of over a million lights and 100+ sound-animated displays, plus ice skating and the pyramids. The island’s big holiday tradition.

Galveston’s world-famous Victorian holiday festival, running nearly 50 years: strolling carolers, parades, costumed characters, and holiday markets through the National Historic Landmark Strand. Wear a costume for cheaper entry.
🎉 Festival Jan 23, 2027 Every January · Saengerfest Park
A downtown cook-off with chili teams, craft beer and wine pours, and live music — the island’s first big party of the new year. Dates approximate; confirm before planning.
🎉 Festival Jan 29 – Feb 9, 2027 Every winter (Jan–Feb) · The Strand & Seawall
One of the largest Mardi Gras celebrations in the country outside New Orleans: two weekends of parades, balcony parties, live entertainment, and beads through downtown. Most parades are free to watch.
🐦 Nature Apr 15, 2027 Every April (spring migration) · Islandwide (birding sites)
A birding and nature-photography festival timed to spring migration, when Galveston sits on a major flyway. Guided field trips, workshops, and boat tours. Dates approximate; confirm the spring weekend.
